Laser hair removal is an effective solution for many trans people who are looking to get rid of unwanted body and facial hair. The ability or inability to control the growth of hair can have a direct impact on mental health as well as acting as providing a real sense of gender identity. For trans people the biggest problem areas tend to be the face and the chest as hair in these areas often causes insecurities especially after Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). In this blog, we’ll look at the ways that laser hair removal is helping to boost confidence for trans women.
Visible results after just two sessions
One of the huge benefits of laser hair removal is that clients see a huge reduction in visible hair after just two sessions. Between 40 – 70% hair reduction is typical after the first two sessions with results depending on what growth cycle hair is in. A full treatment course takes 6 sessions which is spread over 5 – 6 months to coincide with your hair’s natural growth cycle. Once you have completed a full course of 6 sessions you can expect a reduction in hair of up to 95%.
It’s a completely safe treatment
Laser hair removal is one of the safest hair removal treatments available, especially treatments carried out with a Diode laser as these are suitable for all skin and hair types. At Laser Club we use the latest technology SMARTDiode machine which uses three different laser wavelengths which allows us to tailor the treatment to your unique needs.
During your initial consultation a trained laser clinician will carry out a patch test on your hair and skin to check for any adverse reactions. They will discuss your medical history with you and what areas you are looking to be treated and advise on how many sessions are needed to see results that you will be happy with.
Can be used before or after HRT
Whether you choose to have laser hair removal before or after Hormone Replacement Therapy is entirely up to you. HRT doesn’t influence the results of laser hair removal and will not make you more or less suitable for treatment. It is entirely personal choice which route you decide to go with some clients preferring to get started with laser hair removal prior to transitioning while others prefer to wait until they have completed their HRT. Some trans women even choose to have laser hair removal at the same time as their hormone replacement therapy.
It can be used to treat hair anywhere on the body
Unlike temporary treatments such as waxing and shaving, laser hair removal delivers long lasting hair removal with a significant reduction in hair grow back after just two sessions. Laser hair removal is safe for all areas of the body and can be used on sensitive areas including the face as well as around the genitals. As well as treating sensitive areas, laser hair removal can be used to treat larger areas such as the chest, back, legs and arms with treatment carried out quickly and efficiently.
It can be used to treat hair anywhere on the body
Most people compare laser hair removal to a similar sensation as having an elastic band flicked against their skin and it is certainly a lot less painful compared to waxing. At Laser Club in Manchester, we use a SMARTDiode laser machine which features ice cooling to help minimise discomfort during treatment. Another benefit of our laser machine is that it uses three different wavelengths which means we can target the treatment based on your skin type and hair colour to help provide the best possible results.
