Pregnancy comes with lots of changes to your body and that includes changes to your hair growth. Many people notice thicker or faster hair growth during pregnancy and naturally wonder whether laser hair removal is still safe to continue. At The Laser Club, one of the most common questions we get is “Can I continue my laser hair removal treatments while pregnant?” The short answer is no, laser hair removal is not performed during pregnancy. But the reason might surprise you.
Why You Can’t Have Laser Hair Removal While Pregnant
Laser hair removal is generally considered a safe treatment when performed correctly. However, pregnant clients are advised not to undergo laser treatments simply because there hasn’t been enough research on pregnant women. In other words, there is no evidence showing laser hair removal harms a baby but there are also no clinical studies confirming it is completely safe during pregnancy. Because of this lack of research, clinics and medical professionals take a precautionary approach and pause treatments until after pregnancy. Another factor is that pregnancy causes major hormonal changes, which can affect both your skin and hair growth. These hormonal shifts can lead to:
- Increased skin sensitivity
- Higher risk of pigmentation or irritation
- Changes in hair growth patterns
- Less predictable treatment results
Because of these changes, continuing laser treatments during pregnancy may not be as effective anyway. For these reasons, at The Laser Club we will always recommend pausing your course during pregnancy.

I’ve Just Found Out I’m Pregnant What Should I Do?
First, don’t panic. If you’ve recently had a laser session and then discovered you’re pregnant, there is no evidence that a previous treatment will harm your baby.
The best thing to do is simply contact your laser clinic, let them know you are pregnant, pause your remaining sessions until after pregnanc.
At The Laser Club, we can easily pause your treatment plan and resume it when the time is right for you. In the meantime, you can still manage hair growth with temporary methods like shaving.
When Can You Restart Laser Hair Removal After Having a Baby?
After your baby is born, your body needs time to recover and for hormones to settle.
Most experts recommend waiting around 3–6 months postpartum before restarting laser hair removal treatments. This waiting period allows hormones to stabilise, post-pregnancy hair shedding to occur and skin sensitivity to return to normal. During pregnancy, many women develop temporary hormonal hair growth, and this often falls out naturally after birth, meaning you may need fewer sessions than expected once your body settles.
Can You Have Laser Hair Removal While Breastfeeding?
This is another common question. The good news is that laser hair removal itself does not affect breast milk, because the laser only targets the hair follicle in the skin and does not enter the bloodstream. However, many clinics recommend waiting a few months postpartum before starting treatments while breastfeeding.
This is because:
- Hormones may still be fluctuating
- Skin can be more sensitive
- Hair growth patterns may still be changing
If you are breastfeeding, treatments can usually be performed safely on areas such as:
- Legs
- Bikini line
- Face
But clinics typically avoid treating the breast or areola and the underarm area while you are nursing. At The Laser Club, we will always assess your individual situation and make sure it’s the right time to resume your treatments.
