We get a lot of questions at The Laser Club about Laser Hair Removal. One thing we would love for our clients to know is about the science behind laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the hair follicle with a powerful laser, the light and heat from the laser then works to destroy the follicle and therefore stopping the hair from growing.
So why do we recommend getting laser hair removal as soon as possible? The answer is simple, as we get older, naturally our hair starts to grey. The issue with this for laser hair removal is that grey hair lacks pigment. The laser within laser hair removal machines works by being attracted to the dark pigment of the hair so that it can then blast it. So without the pigment in the hair the laser is unable to destroy the follicle as it can’t detect it. Grey hair has little to no pigment so removing hair once the hair is grey is almost impossible. UNLESS, you have a dark root on your hairs or possibly dark hairs in-between will mean SOME removal.

Q- Can laser hair removal remove red or ginger hair?
Similar to grey hair, although red hair can reflect the laser. Red hair will need to have a dark root to possibly work however, it may take twice as many sessions to remove hair than darker/brown hairs. We would recommend a patch test. If you hair is very red or light red we wouldn’t think that Laser Hair Removal would be good for you.
Q- What else could I try for my red or grey hair if laser hair removal wont work for me?
Electrolysis is something for you to investigate as this will remove ALL colours of hair however its time consuming and fairly painful, large areas such as legs would be almost impossible. We would only recommend this solution for the face.

Q- Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?
After you’ve finished your package, which we normally recommend 6 sessions to completely treat the area. You may only need a top up session once a year or every few years to keep on top of any small regrowth, some people after the six sessions won’t see any regrowth again. Some people can need more than six sessions due to hormones or pregnancy.
